The hospital usually adopts the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which takes a long time to detect, and takes one or two hours, and the sensitivity reaches the nanogram level per milliliter.
Optical detection has always been an important means of biochemical analysis. Compared with other optical biosensors, optical fiber biosensors have high sensitivity and are not susceptible to electromagnetic interference. Wu Yihui said that the team has been researching since 2002. After 16 years, it has found a way to improve sensitivity and ensure stability through the fiber optic coupler geometry.
In the experiment, the biosensor based on the fiber coupler structure has a sensitivity of 2 ng per milliliter (1 ng = 1,000,000 gram), which is the highest sensitivity currently obtained by using fiber materials. The measurement takes only 10 minutes, and the cost is also Slightly lower than the current detection cost.
This important research result was published in the international journal Biosensing and Bioelectronics. The project has also been supported by the China-Israel National International Science and Technology Cooperation Project and the National Natural Science Foundation's major scientific research instrument development project.
The China-Israel International Cooperation Acceptance Review Expert Group believes that this study has improved the sensitivity of biomarker detection and laid a good foundation for further application of fiber optic sensors in early diagnosis and prognosis monitoring of major diseases such as cancer.
"We have broken through the biggest difficulties in portable testing equipment, but we can't measure whole blood, we can only test serum. We plan to improve the pre-treatment process in two years, so that blood can be taken through the fingertips." Wu Yihui said.
