The new artificial compound eye is characterized by three planes - a microlens array, a photosensitive array that mimics the neural circuit of the insect brain. And a flexible circuit board that provides mechanical support and can perform programmable signal processing - all stacked, then cut and bent to create a film-like flexible imaging device. The research team recently published the results of the experiment in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, which reported that the prototype device provides a panoramic and undistorted vision of the surrounding environment with high temporal resolution.
