Its purpose is to isolate bacteria from the air and reduce its metabolic activity. Then stuffed with a cork or rubber stopper, sealed with wax, upright placed in a dry place indoors, can be stored for more than one year. When using, only a small amount of mycelium is picked from the slant with an inoculation needle and transplanted on a fresh slant medium. Since the hyphae are stained with paraffin, it must be transferred to a test tube to grow well.
