Zhongshan University Affiliated Hospital introduces VR for medical imaging for surgical treatment

Not long ago, the incident of using AR technology to assist surgery in Hong Kong was reported. Recently, a VR medical platform developed by a young man who started a business in Hong Kong has come in handy in the hospital.

On September 18, in the Virtual Reality (VR) Laboratory of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, several medical students wore VR glasses and “pulled out” the bone image of a fractured patient from the computer screen. Check the condition and discuss how to perform surgery.

Professor Li Chunhai, director of the Department of Surgical Teaching and Director of the Spinal Minimally Invasive Center, said that traditional orthopedic images are two-dimensional images taken by X-rays, which is still the main method of diagnosis and treatment. But now with VR technology, doctors can get more intuitive three-dimensional images, which will help increase the awareness of the disease and facilitate communication with patients. "Now the patient's condition is clear at a glance. This combination of VR and medical imaging is revolutionary in our medical education and communication between doctors and patients," he said.

The R&D platform is a Hong Kong youth who is a start-up entrepreneur, Xie Zhiheng, the founder of Miaozhi Technology. His team has repeatedly communicated with Li Chunhai, an orthopaedic surgeon with extensive clinical and medical education experience, and finally launched a plan that can be implemented.
