Fighting for cancer

In the northeastern French city of Strasbourg, a project focused on boxing training to help cancer patients recover. Alsace, a 60-year-old man, is as weak as other cancer patients. After practicing through boxing, his self-confidence in defeating the disease is improved.

Recently, the Strasbourg Cancer Treatment Center welcomed seven cancer patients who became the first patients in the history of France to use boxing training to treat cancer. The current rehabilitation training lasts for six months and is conducted twice a week. In the training, there will be no actual combat confrontation. The training mainly aims to strengthen the coordination of the body and strengthen the muscle strength through punching and body Balance training.

On the first morning of training, some patients only practiced swinging fists. After medical consultation, each patient was given separate care and sparring. "Some people may not be able to punch a punch once a day, because chemotherapy makes the body very poor, we will design a special training program to adapt the patient to strength," Coach Kuintibo said.

Richard, 78, was told by doctors that he still has about 20 years of life in the future. After coming to the boxing rehabilitation center, the doctor opened a new treatment plan for him, using mental and emotional training to improve the chances of cancer survival.

The trial was launched in May this year and is a course of treatment for six months. The patient is physically and psychologically measured after each training session. "The way they exercise has changed dramatically in half a year, and their range of activities has been greatly improved." "I didn't dare to go downstairs before, now I am no longer afraid," said 46-year-old Crystal Rigel. .

In addition to physical immunotherapy, each patient will eventually receive a boxing training exam. “Everyone has changed during this period. We are not only treating but also having fun.” In addition to daily training, the biggest feeling of boxing to patients is to be the master of their own destiny.

“It’s like a tunnel. It’s interesting that you see the end of the light,” said Serge Astrok, 65. "At first, I didn't know the order of the boxing. I slowly felt my body again and I found myself."

At present, the boxing cancer rehabilitation treatment is fully funded by three pharmaceutical companies, worth about 25,000 euros, and is provided free of charge to patients.
